Winning at Retail

Great Northern Instore helps our customers win at retail by creating merchandising precedents that “WOW”. We are always seeking to help clients solve problems using our insights, design resources, manufacturing capabilities and six decades of in-store expertise. 

How do we do it? We have over 80 designers that:

  • Manufacture an array of permanent, semi-permanent, temporary and interactive merchandising display solutions in-house.
  • Use a variety of materials for retail merchandising solutions, including metal, wood, corrugate and print…selecting the best material for the application.
  • Create compelling shopping experiences to engage consumers at retail to differentiate the store from online shopping. 

Great Northern Instore has won over 100 awards since 2014, offering innovation through world-class display design and engineering as well as retail research and insights. For example, our Evan Williams Bourbon retail display hit a home run in 2018, incorporating permanent and temporary elements to lend an eccentric dugout feel.  Easy, flexible set-up improved implementation and the wood bench provided a promotional take-away at the end of the program.

Design of the Times Awards

The Design of the Times competition commemorates outstanding shopper-facing merchandising and marketing solutions. As a Design of the Times award winner, Great Northern Instore is recognized for innovative and effective in-store retail designs. 

For 25 years, the Design of the Times, or DOT, retail display design awards have celebrated industry-leading digital activations and in-store commerce designs, recognizing their vital role in any successful marketing initiative. 

Great Northern Instore won 12 DOT display awards in 2018, including two Gold. 2017 saw 14 retail display awards — including two Gold — and 14 finalist awards for our team of designers. We also saw 8 retail display awards in 2016, 4 in 2015, and 4 DOT awards in 2014.

OMA Awards

Shop! honors and recognizes retail displays that set design precedents through its Outstanding Merchandising Achievement, or OMA Awards competition. 

The OMA Awards have been a recognized symbol of in-store display excellence for over 50 years. The OMA Awards program is the industry’s longest-running, largest and most prestigious awards contest. Here is how Instore has fared at the OMA Awards over previous years:
